| The title says “reporter,” but at the Catholic Herald, a bi-weekly newspaper and website that serves the Catholic community in 16 counties of northern Wisconsin, you'll do much more than write. The office is located in the city of Superior, Wis., across the bay from Duluth, Minn. Your primary job will be to write features about people and events in the Catholic community, but you’ll also shoot photos, edit copy, assist with planning, lay out part of each issue and contribute to the website. You will be encouraged – and expected — to share your expertise with your coworkers and to learn from them. We seek a practicing, not perfect, Roman Catholic who believes in community publications and the value of local coverage. We seek someone who values and respects the church of Rome and the church at home. We especially seek someone with experience using InDesign CS4 or higher. Proficiency with web 2.0 — social and interactive media like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook — is a plus. As a member of our three-person staff, you’ll need excellent written and oral communication skills, be self-motivated, organized and have the ability to manage your time well. It’s also essential to be flexible, adaptable and respectful of deadlines. You’ll work hard, but you’ll make a difference to readers and the faith they profess. If this still sounds like a publication you want to join, do one more thing: Look at a map of Wisconsin. Locate the communities of Superior, Rhinelander and Hudson. The territory within and near that triangle comprises much of our coverage area. It is vast and sparsely populated but also a showcase of God’s creation with its woods, water, wildlife, clean air, cornfields, cows and people who have time for one another. If you enjoy rural living or just long to leave the rat race and traffic jams, this could be the place. People seldom get stuck in traffic here unless stopping for wildlife. Still interested? Please e-mail your resume, three published writing samples and a letter of interest that includes salary expectations to olszewskib@archmil.org. Put “Superior” in the subject line. Application deadline is Friday, Dec. 16, 2011. | ||||
